Biography and Expertise

Eric Alström is an international business leader with more than two decades of C-suite and executive experience across industrial technology, automotive, and manufacturing sectors. He currently serves as a Non-Executive Director at Hiab OY (since 2024), Concentric AB (since 2025), and Sunlight Group (since 2025). He also held long-standing board positions with Hempel A/S (Vice Chairman between 2016 and 2024) and the Stanford Graduate School of Business MsX Advisory Board (member between 2009 and 2020).

Most recently, Eric Alström served as President of Danfoss Power Solutions, the largest business segment within the Danfoss Group, where he held full global P&L responsibility from 2012 to 2025. Under his leadership, the business transformed into a market-leading provider of hydraulic, electronic, software, and electrification systems for off-highway, on-highway, and marine applications. He led the acquisition and integration of Eaton Hydraulics, one of the largest transactions in the sector, successfully completing a full operating-model redesign within 90 days and driving rapid financial consolidation. During his tenure, the segment consistently outperformed competitors, expanded R&D by 50%, built a leading electrification portfolio through strategic acquisitions, and achieved record revenues of €5.1 billion in 2022.

Before Danfoss, Eric was Managing Director of Benteler Automotive, one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers. He co-led the global automotive division with broad P&L accountability for €5.4 billion in revenue, 73 plants, and more than 23,000 employees. His responsibilities spanned multiple business units, including aluminium systems, carbon fibre products, engineering services, and defense, as well as global functions such as quality, supply chain, IT, and R&D. He also held operational oversight of major regions, including Asia Pacific and North America.

Earlier in his career, Eric held senior roles at General Motors in Europe, Asia Pacific, and the U.S., including serving as Vice President of Global Purchasing & Supply Chain for GM Europe and as General Director of the Subaru–Fuji Heavy Industries Alliance in Japan. His work included leading large-scale purchasing organisations, driving restructuring initiatives, delivering significant material cost reductions, and successfully managing a complex international alliance separation—an achievement recognized with the GM Chairman’s Honors Award.

Across his career, Eric has lived and worked in the United States, Germany, Japan, and multiple European and Asia-Pacific markets, developing deep global leadership experience in cross-border operations, integrations, transformation programs, and large-scale organisational leadership.

Eric lives in Germany with his wife and four children. He enjoys spending time with his family, and is passionate about personal fitness, skiing, photography, and cooking.
